The Cable Guy 4K 1996 Ultra HD 2160p

A black comedy whose main character is Chip Douglas, an obviously crazy cable installer who tries to befriend the quiet yuppie Stephen Kovach. At first, Kovach is happy to have such a helpful acquaintance around the house, but gradually the friendship becomes increasingly intrusive, until it turns into full-blown obsession.

Following the teen drama “Reality Bites,” popular American comedian Ben Stiller takes on his second directing project, this time in a genre much more familiar to him—“The Cable Guy.” For the lead role, Ben didn’t cast himself, but rather one of the most talented comedians of our time—Jim Carrey, who was especially popular in the 1990s. And this collaboration turned out to be truly spectacular.

The film is full of future stars of the comedy genre. What’s more, they all play small roles here, bordering on cameos—Owen Wilson and Jack Black deliver powerful performances and are very memorable. You can see the talent of future stars of American comedy in them. Ben is no slouch either, and even though he plays two absolutely tiny roles as twin brothers, it’s simply impossible not to remember them. Matthew Broderick, despite playing what is essentially the lead role, is somewhat overshadowed by the other characters. However, thanks to his grounded performance compared to the film’s other characters, his presence never becomes tiresome.

But of course, Jim is the star here. In this film, he displays simply magical skills in facial expressions and gestures. I think the karaoke scene, in which Jim performs the Rolling Stones’ song “Somebody to Love” in his own unique way, stands out. His voice, body movements, and facial expressions—you couldn’t possibly call this mere clowning around. It’s real talent; I’d even say he’s a true prodigy!

Otherwise, it’s a very good comedy, with sharp jokes, colorful actors, and even an interesting underlying message. Ben loves to weave a central idea into his films and, with the help of the actors, develop it, fully revealing it in the finale. And this film is no exception. After watching it, you’re left with some inexplicable feeling of joy and hope. Damn, I’m getting carried away. And this after a comedy… it happens.

The Cable Guy is a powerful comedy that ranks among Jim Carrey’s best films. Ben Stiller now feels much more confident as a director, which is why the entire film has gained in strength and consistency. The film keeps you hooked from start to finish and doesn’t let up until the very end credits. Plus, it’s wildly funny. I think that’s enough for a quality comedy.
