The biography of famous singer Loretta Lynn, who rose from poverty in Kentucky to become a country music star. The singer's life was marked by many unpleasant moments: struggles with drug addiction, nervous breakdowns, marital problems, and the death of her best friend.

User Review

Legendary country singer Loretta Lynn had to go through a lot before gaining popularity and becoming the No. 1 country lady. Coming from true poverty, she stubbornly moved forward, relying on the support of her beloved husband, her children, and, of course, her fans. But the fame she achieved brought her as much suffering as it did joy before she became widely recognized. The story of this famous singer formed the basis for the biographical film Coal Miner's Daughter.

Synopsis Loretta Lynn got married at thirteen, gave birth to her first child at fourteen, and by the age of twenty, she was already a mother of four. However, something was still missing in Loretta's life, even despite her “feminine happiness” with her beloved husband. But one day, on their wedding anniversary, her husband Doolittle gave her a guitar. From that moment on, the musical career of the first lady of country music began.

Acting Overall, I really liked the acting. I can't judge how realistically Sissy Spacek and Tommy Lee Jones portrayed the real people. The only thing I can say for sure is that the characters they played looked harmonious in the film and made a beautiful romantic duo. It is very interesting to watch the transformation of Spacek's character, who goes from being a modest, quiet girl to a strong-willed but vulnerable woman. I liked the performance of Tommy Lee Jones, who played Doolittle, Loretta's husband, who did everything he could to make his wife famous, but at the same time distanced himself from her because of her rise to fame.

Direction It is safe to say that director Michael Apted shot the film in the biographical genre, i.e., it combines several subgenres at once, including family drama, melodrama, musical drama, and a touch of comedy. However, the film does not show us the entire story of Loretta Lynn's life, starting from her childhood. The film begins when she is 13 years old, and this is no coincidence, because it was at this age that Loretta met her husband, who provided invaluable support in establishing her singing career. Throughout the film, we see, and the director deliberately shows us, that there is an invisible bond between the main characters that nothing can destroy, despite any obstacles. Even small squabbles and quarrels look cute and end with the characters realizing once again that they love each other.

Screenplay As mentioned earlier, the film begins with the main character at the age of 13, i.e., in the 1940s, when she met her husband. From this moment on, a classic love story unfolds, which soon leads to marriage. This is followed by a part about the history of their marriage. Loretta, a mother of four, does nothing but cook, clean, and do laundry. But this does not prevent her from loving her husband, who once, instead of an engagement ring (which the characters could not afford), gives her a guitar, as Doolittle himself admires her singing. From that moment on, Loretta's career takes off, and her voice wins her millions of fans across the country. But this dazzling fame has a downside.

Editing In order for the viewer to immerse themselves in Loretta Lynn's rapid rise to fame, the filmmakers resorted to a method of editing in which the character performs the same action, but in different places and, accordingly, at different times, with each scene becoming better and better. I really liked the scene where Loretta was just learning to play the guitar and sing at the same time, and each time she got better and better at it, until it finally took up all her personal time.

Conclusion Personally, I really liked the film. I was most afraid that it would be a tragedy with a painful ending, but everything is shown in a very realistic and natural way. The main characters literally live on the screen, and they look cute in general. In my opinion, this film is worth seeing at least once to relax and enjoy what you see.
