Fade to Black 4K 1980 Ultra HD 2160p
Obsessed with movies and obsessed with Marilyn Monroe, the protagonist of this film kills his enemies by dressing up as his favorite movie characters. According to Aunt Stella’s stories, his mother was a beauty and a great dancer, but his father ruined everything. She never stops scolding her nephew, insisting that he’s no better than his father. His problem is that he doesn’t live in the real world. He works as a messenger at a film studio, and he’s constantly yelled at, cursed at, and humiliated. So you can understand the poor guy. As the plot requires, the film recreates scenes from “Dracula,” “Psycho,” and other movies. A young Mickey Rourke appears in a cameo role as a film studio worker who is also a movie fan.
User Review
First and foremost, I want to both praise and criticize the director—and, incidentally, the screenwriter—of this film, Vernon Zimmerman. I want to praise him for the excellent concept and the plot, and criticize him for the execution. Alas, the feelings I had at the beginning of the film crashed like a wave against the rocks somewhere around the middle.
A young man, constantly studying cinema, knowing who starred in what and how much each actor was paid for every role, at some point goes mad and can no longer distinguish between reality and the film reel... It’s a brilliant concept, a wonderful idea that could have been developed into a mind-blowing drama, a novella about a neglected, small, confused man.
Alas, somewhere around the middle of the film (despite the fact that the beginning made me settle in comfortably in front of the screen and try to delve into every detail of the narrative), you realize that the movie is sliding into the realm of second-rate films. The numerous plot holes, unexplained phenomena, and other nonsense have a very strong impact on the overall viewing experience.
I watched this movie because of Rourke. To be honest, if he hadn’t been in this movie—even in a very minor, or rather, cameo role—I probably wouldn’t have even heard of it.
In the end, I want to say this: young Dennis Christopher in the lead role is a marvel—he’s so good—and the movie definitely deserves a very good remake!
